Gustav Mahler Kompositionspreis der Stadt Klagenfurt
Preisträger 2009
Seit 1995 veranstalten die Stadt Klagenfurt und das Musikforum Viktring-Klagenfurt den internationalen Gustav Mahler Kompositionspreis mit dem Ziel, ein Zusammenwirken von improvisierter und notierter Musik auszuloten.
1. Preis: Stefan Lienenkämper (D) für sein Werk "Die Dritte hat keinen Namen"
2. Preis: Martin Sadowski (D) für "Indifferente Kammermusik"
3. Preis: Nejc Kuhar (Slow) für "Preljuba moja srca"
Stefan Lienenkämper
1963 in Meinerzhagen (Sauerland) geboren, machte seine ersten musikalischen Erfahrungen als Bassist in Gospel- und Jazzbands. Nach dem Abitur schloss sich ein Studium der Philosophie an, ein Gebiet, das heute oft Inspirationsquelle für seine Musik ist.
In den Jahren 1989–1993 war er Bassist, Komponist und Co- Produzent des Musiktheaterprojekts Il gran teatro amaro, mit dem er in diesen Jahren zahlreiche Konzertreisen durch Europa unternahm. Zwei CDs, die bei dem Schweizer Label rec rec Music erschienen sind, dokumentieren seine Arbeit mit dieser Gruppe.
Während eines 6-jährigen Amsterdam Aufenthaltes studierte er Komposition an der Hoge School voor de Kunsten Utrecht bei Henk Alkema und erhielt 1993 sein Kompositionsdiplom.
Er besuchte Meisterkurse für Komposition u.a. bei: Prof. G. Stäbler, Prof. M. Spahlinger,
Prof. P.-H. Dittrich, H.J. Hespos.
1995 war er 1. Preisträger beim Kompositionswettbewerb des Brandenburgisches Colloquium für Neue Musik unter dem Vorsitz von Prof. Paul Heinz Dittrich. 1999 erhielt er ein Künstlerstipendium der Käthe Dorsch Stiftung. 2002 war er Preisträger beim Kompositionswettbewerb der flammabis-zeitgenössische Musik e.V..
2003 war er 1. Preisträger beim Gustav Mahler Kompositionswettbewerb der Stadt Klagenfurt unter dem Vorsitz von Prof. Siegfried Palm. 2008 1. Preisträger bei dem anlässlich der Wiedereröffnung des Konzerthauses der Hochschule für Musik Detmold ausgeschriebenen internationalen Kompositionswettbewerb The New Architecture of Sound. 2009 1. Preisträger beim internationalen Kompositionswettbewerb Continuum Musicum Association Reggio Calabria.
Seit 2000 schreibt er auch Filmmusiken. Es entstanden Musiken zu experimentellen Kurzfilmen und zahlreiche Arbeiten für Kinderproduktionen des wdr (Die Sendung mit der Maus). 2001 entstand Musik zum Dokumentarfilm Das Problem ist meine Frau von Calle Overweg. Dieser Film erhielt den 3-Sat Dokumentarfilmpreis 2003. Lienenkämper lebt in Berlin.

Seit 1995 intensive Beschäftigung mit Jazz- und Rock- und Volksmusik, seit 1998 zusätzlich klassischer Gitarrenunterricht bei Roland Boehm an der städtischen Musikschule Biberach an der Riss.
2002 bis 2009 Studium der klassischen Gitarre (Diplom, Künstlerische Ausbildung) bei Professor Olaf van Gonnissen und Kurt Koch an der Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt.
Während des Studiums erste kompositorische Versuche und Kompositionsunterricht bei Toni Völker. Gegenwärtig Kompositionsstudium bei Marko Zdralek.
Künstlerische Schwerpunkt ist neben Komposition, die Auseinandersetzung mit nicht-europaischer Kunst- und Unterhaltungsmusik, v.a. mit der Kammermusik und der damit verbundenen Randbereiche: Improvisation und Komposition für kleine Besetzungen, Elektro-akustische und Angewandte Musik.
Nejc Kuharguitarist and composer, was born in 1987 in Slovenia. He started to study guitar under the guidance of prof. Anton Črnugelj. The stature of this man, as a teacher and as a human being, made Kuhar’s love for classical music ever greater; the professor’s gift was to offer a wide musical education as well as perfecting his guitar technique, whilst starting him off on composition as well. As an expression of gratitude, Kuhar dedicated his composition ‘Contemporary Scherzi for Tone’ to him.
Kuhar continued his guitar studies in Vienna; since 2007, he has been studying under the world-renowned guitarist and teacher, Alvar Pierri, while at the same time studying composition under the composer Dr. Rainer Bischof.
His musical feeling and ideas are not only part of his guitar interpretations, but also of his composition. He mostly writes for guitar, chamber and solo instruments and has also tried his hand at film and theatre composition. His music is regularly heard in Slovenia, and has also been performed in other countries of Europe. His compositions have been published by the Italian publisher Berben, the Wicky publishing house and tha Canadian guitar publisher d’OZ. His guitar piece ‘Six miniatures, for each season onE’, won at the ‘International Composition Competition’ at Povoletto. The same event in 2008 got him second prize (for composition Hommage a Erik Satie) and the right to have his work published by the Wicky publishing house. He also won the composition competition at Cecciano in Italy in 2007; the result was a chance to be published by Berben, one of the largest guitar music publishers in the world. He was among the finalists at the ‘International Composition Competition for Double Bass in Paris’, where in 2008, his piece ‘Svašta’ earned him the right to have it published. In 2007 Radio Slovenia, Slovenia’s national radio broadcasting service, aired a radio program about the duality of his path as a composer and guitarist, which was a part of the Radio’s “Musical Portraits of young composers” series.
The numerous highest international prizes have come his way also as a solo guitarist as well as in guitar duo, alongside positive critical acclaim and the respect of the public both at home and abroad, rare for such a young artist.
Among other awards, he received a gold medal at the ‘State TEMSIG Competition’ in 2005, the ‘Antonio Taria Musical July at the Coast’ award in 2006 and first prize at the competition for chamber ensembles ‘Primož Ramovž’ 2007. He came top and got first prize at the ‘State TEMSIG Competition’ 2008 and second prize at the ‘International Guitar Competition’ at Gorizia… In 2008, he was awarded a grant by the Slovene Ministry of Culture.
Kuhar is regularly giving solo and chamber concerts in Slovenia and abroad, playing everything from Baroque, through the Romantic and 20th century repertoire and beyond. What makes his concerts special is the inclusion of his own pieces.
